5K Road Race to Benefit LifeFlight

Mark your calendars! July 29, 2012 in Machias. A 5k road race (run/walk) and a 1 mile fun run to raise money for the LifeFlight Foundation.

Shelbie Ross, the race organizer, explains her motivation:

On July 29, 2003 my younger brother Caleb was involved in a serious motor vehicle crash. He suffered numerous orthopedic injuries and was in critical condition when he arrived at our local hospital's emergency department. After a quick assessment by physicians in Machias, the decision was made to LifeFlight him to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Caleb spent 6 weeks in the hospital there undergoing numerous surgeries to repair his injuries. Had it not been for the availability of LifeFlight and the 21 minute flight to Bangor, I'm not sure what my brother's chances of survival would have been. The outcome could have been drastically different not only for my brother, but for many others in this small community.

I feel like it's time to pay it forward. I want to get my community together to raise money for a great cause that is truly beneficial and crucial to anyone who needs it. There are many families in my area who have been greatly impacted by the availability of this service. My main goal is to get my community involved and make them aware of how vital this organization is in the chain of care.
