Logan's Road to Recovery: One family's story of appreciation

Lovells HardwareNot long ago, Andy and Terry Lovell received a call that every parent dreads. Their 22-year-old son, Logan, had been in a terrible car accident. LifeFlight of Maine was called to transport him to the trauma center at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He was so badly injured, doctors gave him little chance of survival. After 62 days in the hospital, Logan returned home to Guilford to be with his wife, Lauren, as he continued his recovery. Together with his family, they have learned how to live with his permanent brain injury.

Logan's life, and his family’s life, will never be the same, but they are all enormously grateful for the care he received during his recovery. They speak fondly of the LifeFlight crew that got him to the help he needed; the surgeons and specialists that repaired his injured body; and especially Laurie Cyr, the EMMC nurse who almost single-handedly pulled him through a particularly rough patch.

With characteristic generosity often found in rural Maine, the Lovells have done what they can to support LifeFlight, which depends on funding from private individuals, corporations, foundations and the government. Last summer, the Lovells held a raffle at their family-owned hardware store in Guilford and donated all of the proceeds to LifeFlight’s mission. Contributions such as this help LifeFlight purchase specialized equipment like night vision goggles and pediatric ventilators, and ensure these lifesaving helicopters will be available whenever they are needed.
