Critical Care Transport
At its core, our mission is to ensure people everywhere in Maine have access to critical healthcare when they need it most. We do this by providing a statewide air ambulance service that transports critically ill and injured patients, following the highest quality of care and rigorous safety standards.
Our crew brings lifesaving equipment (link to equipment page) and expertise to emergency scenes and community hospitals throughout the state. LifeFlight complements and supports the work of local physicians, mid-level providers, nurses and local emergency medical services (EMS) in caring for the critically ill and injured.
Human Patient Simulator
The human patient simulator (HPS) program, owned by Maine EMS and operated by LifeFlight of Maine, travels across the state bringing emergency medical education directly to rural communities in Maine. Through this program, facilitators from LifeFlight provide a unique, hands-on experience fully customized to meet the training needs of hospitals, EMS agencies and educational institutions. Participants use advanced, computerized manikins to practice skills in a controlled, realistic environment. The manikins can be housed in a customized RV parked outside your facility, or can be positioned in a home or at an accident scene using new wireless technology.
Developing a Landing Zone
When an accident or other critical injury or illness threatens life or limb, there is no substitute for quickly mobilized, highly skilled emergency medical providers working together to ensure patients receive the care they need. LifeFlight’s specially trained paramedics and critical care nurses bring intensive care skills and equipment directly to the patient, and twenty-five percent of the time, that means directly to the scene of an accident.
When landing at unprotected landing zones on the sides of highways, fields, or clearings in the woods, safety is paramount. LifeFlight has developed resources and training programs to assist EMS and public safety agencies in establishing scene landing zones.
